Hurricane Irene Project

Critical Thinking

1. What time if the year do hurricanes occur? Why do they only happen during that time?

The hurricanes use to happen in the summer between June and November must commonly. They just use to happen on this time because the temperature is warm and helps the hurricane to get stronger, help it for the strong wind, the warm water of the ocean and the waves.

2. How can the timing of the tides (high or low) effect the devastation of a hurricane?

If the tide is higher the hurricane is going to cause more damage. The water of the ocean is already up so when the hurricane come, the water is going to increase even more than the usually.

3. If an area is fully saturated, will a hurricane have more or less impact on a area?

The hurricane is going to affect more that zone because the water ground is completely full, so the water it doesn't have a place to go, so the flooding are must probably to happen. When the precipitation or rain happen, the water is not going to have any place to go.

4. How does ground water saturation affect rivers and streams?

The water ground saturation affect rivers and streams because the groundwater is full, so the water of the precipitation that has send rain, snow, in a big amounts, so the water would start going to the rivers and streams.
